RTI exposes NGO's fake recruitment drive in Ranchi
24 Feb, 2012
Unlike popular perception, the Right to Information (RTI) Act can be used not only against the government organisations, but also against any violation of rules by the NGO’s.
An advertisement was published in a vernacular daily of Jharkhand by Vikas Evam Kalyan Samity, offering jobs under an alleged scheme, namely Jharkhand rural livelihood scheme, with a salary between Rs 6000 and Rs 12,000. Nearly 200 individuals applied for job on an application form costing Rs. 200 each. A vigilant citizen who was suspicious of the advertisement, enquired about the status of the NGO through RTI application with the office of Ranchi Deputy Commissioner that resulted in a full fledged inquiry. It came to light that the NGO was registered with Bihar government and had no association with Jharkhand. The NGO was not only made to pack up but the members involved were forced to return cost of application form (Rs 200 each) to all 200 applicants who had applied.
