RTI brings to light an imaginary building for displaced
17 Aug, 2012The residents of Golibar slums in Santa Cruz (East), Mumbai, displaced due to demolition works, had filed an appeal under the Right to Information (RTI) Act to know about the status of the housing project meant for their rehabilitation. The reply to the RTI application has revealed that the building was completed in 2007 itself and that around 700 families had been given the possession of the houses.
The paradox is that the version of a SRA employee contradicts the RTI reply given by their department who state that the work is still to be started. A report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) shows that the bidding for the project and its implementation were not carried out in transparent manner and the bid was awarded to the Shivalik Ventures.
