RTI act has become a source of livelihood of many so called activists
Ref: Karnataka Information Commissioner to pay costs of Rs. 1 lakh for frivolous filing of appeal
Comment: The Karnataka high court or Apex court of India did nothing wrong by passing such verdict on the contrary their decision is justified.
The RTI act is meant for transparency in public function, but where there is alternative and more established means and procedure of procuring information is available, then holding a PIO for ransom for furnishing such information is not justified practically it is seen that now a days only 10 to 20% people are using RTI for bonafide or social cause, otherwise it is widely used for blackmailing, extortion, settling personal scores or to waste the precious time of public authorities.
RTI act has become a source of livelihood of many so called activists and if you check the antecedents of many such people, they have a criminal record of specially cheating and forgery cases.
No matter the RTI cat is meant for anti corruption act and to promote transparency but like any other statute it should be used rationally.
