Rich HUDA; city with poor infrastructure
29 Jan, 2014The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that though lots need to be done to improve the infrastructure of Gurgaon, Rs. 5,000 crore is lying unused with the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA).
In its reply to the application, HUDA stated that till June, 2013 it had earned around Rs. 10,000 crores as External Development Charge (EDC). However, only around half the amount was spent in developing the area. The reply also said that around Rs. 8 crore was spent by HUDA on purchasing advance fire-fighting equipment though at present the fire services are being hadled by the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon.
The applicant alleged that though this huge amount of revenue has been generated by the city of Gurgaon, it is being used in other parts of the state at the cost of infrastructural development of Gurgaon and the local residents have to suffer. Refuting the allegation, the HUDA authorities stated that spending of money in developmental tasks requires time as before the actual expenditure is made, projects are needed to be planned, sanctioned and awarded.
