Remand of RTI activist Akhil Gogoi extended by another day
Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) activist Pranab Boro had committed self-immolation by pouring petrol on his body and setting himself on fire. He had demanded land rights for the people living in the hill areas in Guwahati. Just a day before visit of the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's to Assam, Boro had committed the act on February 24 in front of the Assam Secretariat.
The Police had arrested RTI activist and president of KMSS Akhil Gogoi alongwith five other members of the organisation on March 2. He was sent to police remand for four days on the charge of abetment to suicide and criminal conspiracy for Pranab Boro's self-immolation. His arrest had led to widespread protests across the state with members of MKSS demanding his release. The police remand of Gogoi was extended by one day while three persons were sent to judicial custody. The police had sought remand for five more days.
