Pune NSDM implementation panel didn’t meet even once in 2013
28 Dec, 2013
A district-level committee was formed in 2011 to look after the implementation of National Skill Development Mission (NSDM) in Pune which consisted of Directorate of Vocational Education and Training, Directorate of Employment and self Employment and senior officers from local-self governing bodies.
However, the reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that the committee hasn’t met even once in 2013 though it was required to meet once every month to ensure proper execution of NSDM. More so, the inspection of minutes of meetings of the committee indicates several lacunae in proper implementation of the mission. The District Collector of Pune had expressed displeasure in the meeting held in December, 2012 stating that no proper guidance was available from departments of employment, self-employment and skill development on how to go about the implementation. The collector had also expressed concerns regarding non-utilisation of funds allotted by the District Planning and Development Council (DPDC) towards implementation of the mission.
The National Skill Development Mission, a flagship scheme of the Centre, aims to create skilled workforce of 5 crore in Maharashtra by 2022. It was launched in Pune in 2011 with a view to fill the prospective skill gap by creating 28 lakh skilled human resources in different sectors by 2022.
