Is pro-active disclosure a farce even after seven years of RTI Act?
13 Oct, 2012RTI activists have claimed that 85% of the 26 state government departments in the state of Gujarat did not fulfill the mandate prescribed under section 4 of the RTI Act, 2005. These departments did not upload even the basic information on their websites which is supposed to be proactively disclosed by them. A petition filed by Mahiti Adhikar Gujarat Pahel (MAGP) revealed that only 10% of 17 manual which is listed in the RTI act are disclosed on the websites of the various state government departments. It was also revealed that the State Information Commission had a backlog of over 11,000 appeals and complaints till June and the page on its website, which is supposed to show such data, was found to be missing.
