PMO declines information citing disproportionate diversion of the resources
2 Feb, 2013An application was filed with the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the list of live files, the files lost since 2005 and the number of digitised files.
The PMO declined to provide the sought information stating that the demanded information was not specific and was spread over a substantial period of time due to which internal resources of the office would have to be diverted disproportionately.
A similar application was also filed under right to information act with the RTI section of the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT). The DoPT provided the information stating that it had only one file in digital form that related to the exemption of the CBI from the RTI. The application was filed by RTI activist, Lokesh Batra, who claimed that such a reply from the PMO indicated inefficient record keeping.
It has been reported that the PMO usually provides transcript of the file notings and has stopped providing photocopies of files under RTI.
