Partial information provided by MC about assessment of house tax
27 Apr, 2013An application was filed with the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (LMC) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the details about the house tax paid by schools in Zone D of the city.
The reply provided by the corporation states that out of a total of 67 schools in the zone, only one school – Amar Public School – was assessed for the house tax in 2012-13. Another school to be assessed is Adarsh Model School whose assessment was done in 1996-97. The incomplete reply from the LMC gives the assessment year of only four schools and the areas of only eleven schools out of 67.
Due to lack of recent assessments, many anomalies have been pointed out as the schools which had been assessed quite earlier, are still pending meagre amount for large area while recently assessed schools are paying large amount of house tax despite occupying smaller area. For example, Amar Public School with 460 square yards is paying Rs. 5,702, while Adarsh Model School with 107 square yards is being charged Rs 7,484. Similarly BVM School with around 8,000 square yards pays around Rs. 10,000 whereas S K Model School pays Rs. 34,830 for an area of 200 square yards.
