Over 60 Police Stations and Police Posts in J & K are working without toilets
20 Feb, 2015As per information received under the Right to Information (RTI) Act by Raman Sharma, more than 60 police stations and police posts across the state of Jammu and Kashmir do not have basic amenities like toilet and drinking water.
As per the Information provided by the Public Information Officer (PIO) cum AIG Welfare of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Headquarters, 48 police posts and 14 police stations in J & K are devoid of any toilet facility. The reply further shows that drinking water facility is absent in 49 Posts and 23 Police Stations.
In reply to the specific query regarding any plan under which these basic amenities would be provided, the PHQ stated that the facilities like providing of drinking water, toilets etc is the prime priority of the department and the same is projected under annual action plans in phased manner. No time frame has been provided for the same.
It indicates the working conditions of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, especially at the lower rank. The RTI applicant has alleged that denying basic amenities to police amounts to human rights violation and to have citizen friendly police, basic facilities should be provided at an earliest.
