Only 3 out of 7 filling stations of PMC have functional water meters
30 Mar, 2013Efficient use of water and conservation of water is very important for any region. An application was filed with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to know the status of the seven filling stations for water tankers run by the PMC.
The reply shows that only three out of seven filling stations have water meters in working condition. The information provided in the reply says that water meters are functional only at Patwardhan Baug, Wadgaon Sheri and Ramtekdi water points. Meters have not been fitted at Yerawada and Chatuhshringi while the one at Padmavati has become dysfunctional for past few months. At Parvati station, three new water points have been added to the existing three. The new points have not been fitted with water meters and the older ones have non-functioning meters.
The reply shows that the poor condition of water meters is causing hundreds of gallons of water to be wasted on daily basis. The situation has been brought to the notice of the city Mayor. According to information obtained, no receipts are being issued for tankers filling water at the stations.
