One year after filing application, RTI applicant still waits for information
10 Apr, 2013An application was filed with the education department of Maharashtra under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to know about the total number of seats reserved for SC and ST candidates, the number of seats in management courses and the seats filled in these categories apart from the total number of admissions in colleges across Pune done in August and September.
As no information was provided, the applicant filed the first appeal with the first appellate authority which ruled that the demanded information be provided to the appellant free of cost. However, again no information was provided and the appellant made the second appeal which ordered the department to disclose the asked information within eight days.
More than a year has passed since the application was filed and still the information has not been provided despite orders from both appellate authorities and a show cause notice issued to the department officials.
Critics have pointed to the need of proper documentation of the orders of the Information Commission and their follow up.
