One third of posts vacant in Gujarat State Human Rights Commission
4 Jul, 2013
An application was filed with the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission (GSHRC) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get information regarding the number of complaints received by the commission, their disposal and pendency since 2006. The query also sought to know about the vacant posts in the commission.
The reply from the GSHRC shows that one third of total posts in the commission are lying vacant. The data provided in the reply states that there are a total of 78 sanctioned posts in GSHRC out of which 26 posts are vacant. The vacant seats include important posts like director general of police, deputy superintendent of police and registrar (legal).
The RTI applicant stated that there are many posts which are lying vacant since 2006, when the commission was constituted to look into the complaints of human rights violations in Gujarat. It has also been revealed that the annual reports of the human rights commission have also been not presented before the legislative assembly of the state since 2011.
