Notice issued to BMC on purchase of ambulance by Bombay HC

RTI activist Mehul Shantilal filed an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act to know abot the purchase of 12 cardiac ambulance by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM). On the basis of reply received, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Bombay High Court alleging that the purchase price of the ambulances is very high and the same have been purchased at double the prevailing market price.
As per the submissions of the PIL, the corporation spent bought ambulances at a cost of about Rs 60 lakh each, as against the prevailing market price of Rs 21 lakh. The petitioner has sought action against the wrongdoers claiming that it a wastage of the public money. Hearing the PIL, a notice was issued by a bench of Justices V M Kanade and P D Kode of the Bombay High Court.
