No Occupation Certificate for 50% of buildings cleared for construction
16 Nov, 2013
The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that almost fifty per cent of the buildings cleared for construction in Mumbai don’t have an Occupation Certificate (OC).
The data provided in the reply given by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) states that the corporation cleared 13,313 building proposals in the last nine years but issued occupational certificates for only 6,888 buildings (i.e. around 51%). The data show that a total of 14,370 proposals were received during the period from 2003-04 to 2012-13 out of which 9,841 were given Intimation of Disapproval (IOD), 13,313 proposals were given Commencement Certificates (CC), 6,888 were granted an Occupational Certificate (OC) and Building Completion Certificates were issued for 128 proposals.
Activist Anil Galgali, who had filed the application has demanded that BMC should upload these data on its website every three months so that the naïve citizens are not fooled by the builders.
