13 Jun, 2013An application was filed on May 8, 2012 with the collector office, Nagpur under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get information about the auction of Sonegaon Lake and other related issues. The then manager of collector and court of wards office replied to the application in around two months stating that the court of wards didn’t fall under the purview of the RTI Act.
The applicant then filed the first appeal on July 9, 2012 with the first appellate authority and the deputy collector of the district. one hearing of the case was conducted on January 15, 2013. The first appellate authority passed an order only after nine months of filing the appeal on April 2, 2013.
In the order, the first appellate authority directed the manager, collector and court of wards office to provide the demanded information to the appellant. However, despite the order, no information was provided and a letter was stating that the information could not be provided as it had been barred by the third party.
Alleging that this is an attempt on the part of government to conceal some sort of irregularities, the applicant told that he planned to file second appeal with the state information commission.
