No CBI probe for missing Tigers of Panna Tiger Reserve
13 Jun, 2012As per information received in response to an application filed under the RTI Act, the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) MK Roy of the Forest department had recommended a CBI probe to look into poaching and disappearance of tigers from the Panna Wild Life Sanctuary in January 2011. It involved a probe into the conspiracy in the disappearance of tigers from PTR and involvement of international smugglers in it. All cases where challans could not be submitted were also to be incorporated in the probe. It was planned when the 2009 census found that there are no Tigers in the Panna reserve.
After more than a year, the home department has overruled the recommendation of the then ACS of the forest department and has formed a committee to look into the death of Tigers. The Inspector General of Police of Sagar range and the Director, Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR) would be the part of the committee constituted. As per the 2009 census, there are no Tigers in the Panna reserve.
