Nearly 300 accidents occur every month on Delhi Gurgaon Expressway

The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that on an average around 300 accidents take place every month between Dhaula Kuan and Kherki Daula toll plazas on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.
Along the 18-km-long stretch of the expressway, there are over twelve urban villages and an estimated 1.5 lakh pedestrians and numerous cyclists cross the expressway daily in this stretch including children who study in the schools across the highway. The villagers contend that the toll plazas on the expressway make commuting unsafe for pedestrians as they cannot use the service lanes which are even more hazardous and accident-prone. They believe that removing the toll plazas and normalizing the traffic speed would make it safe for the daily commuters.
The local residents have formed an alliance, Toll Sangharsh Samiti, to fight for the removal of the toll plazas and provision of footover bridges, underpasses and flyovers.
