Nearly 2,500 persons including crew members have died in fatal air accidents
13 Nov, 2014Reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that nearly 2,500 deaths including those of the crew members, due to accidents in flights within the country and Indian flights abroad.
Cases of flight accidents are usually followed by enquiry to look into the cause of flight accident. The reply from the Ministry of Civil Aviation shows that the investigation reports of all accidents, barring three have already been submitted. The three committees of inquiries whose report is yet to be submitted pertain to accidents which took place after July 2012 which led to the death of 8 individuals. The reply says that with effect from 2010 to July 2012, there was formation of one court of inquiry and 10 committees. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has put up all the modes of investigation into all incidents that took place between 1979 and 2009 on its official website.
