Municipal Corporation of Mumbai issues notices to top leaders – RTI Reply
30 Apr, 2013The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued notices to several political leaders including ministers and former ministers for carrying out illegal constructions in their commercial premises.
The notices have been issued by BMC’s building proposal department in connection with the unauthorized constructions done by the political leaders in Sukhda Shubhada Co-operative Housing Society at Worli, which is built on land earlier owned by Mumbai Police but later given to the political leaders for constructing posh flats and commercial premises.
The RTI reply says that many senior leaders like Deputy Chief Minister and irrigation minister Ajit Pawar, former Union home minister and governor of Punjab Shivraj Patil, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee chief Manikrao Thakre and BJP leader Gopinath Munde have been asked to remove the unauthorized constructions within one month. The step has been taken in confirmation with the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act 1966.
