Mumbai witnesses one rape case everyday - RTI reply
7 May, 2013Reply to an application under the RTI Act has revealed that during the first quarter of 2013, there has been a rape every day in Mumbai. The statistics show that there were 45 rape cases involving women over 18 while the number of minor girls who were raped was 45. The year 2012 witnessed 231 rape cases in Mumbai which is the highest figure in the last decade but the figures for the first three months of 2013 show a massive rise in the number of such heinous crime. The arithmetical average monthly rapes stood at 30.33 in 2013 which is much higher when compared to 19.25 in the preceding year. This includes only the reported cases while the cases which are unreported remain unnoticed.

The provisions of this Act shall have effect notwithstanding anything inconsistent therewith contained in the Official Secrets Act, 1923 (19 of 1923), and any other law for the time being in force or in any instrument having effect by virtue of any law other than this Act.
