More than 70,000 pension cases pending in Kashmir division
17 Mar, 2013The reply to an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that a huge numbers of pension cases under different schemes are pending with the social welfare department of Kashmir division.
The reply states that 24,216 cases are pending with the department under Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) whereas total number of pending cases under National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) is 48,000. Replying to a query about the total number of pending applications for old age, widow and disability pension, the department stated that the cases pending for disposal under ISSS in the Kashmir division is as under:
- 9,446 cases of old age pension,
- 8718 cases of woman in distress and
- 6052 cases of physically challenged pension
The department did not provide any details about the cases pending in Jammu division. The applicant has expressed surprise at the grant of Poverty Reduction to the State Government Award by the TV channel IBN7. Such a high pendency of cases reflects poorly on the working of the department.
