Speed thrills but kills – true in Mumbai
10 Jan, 2012
Information obtained under the RTI from the Mumbai traffic police has revealed that while 38 people were killed in 38 bike accidents in 2001, the number rose to 88 deaths in 83 mishaps in 2009. In 2001, 396 people were killed in 374 accidents and in 2009, the fatality rose to 422 in 400 accidents. The information has revealed that between January 2001 and March 2010, a total of 5,324 persons died in 5,135 mishaps. This calls for conducting awareness drives to inculcate better traffic sense and having sufficient staff strength in the traffic police.
