SIC directs to enforce voluntary disclosure
9 Jan, 2012The Bihar State Information Commission (SIC) has recommended to the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary of Panchayati Raj department to enforce the Section 4 of the RTI Act, 2005 which puts an obligation of "voluntary disclosures". The State Information Commission observed that voluntary disclosures and their regular updating on the web is the best way to help information-seekers in getting information they need in a hassle-free manner without affecting day-to-day functioning of government offices. This would strengthen the roots of good governance and help banish corruption through transparency. While disposing a case related to functioning of three-tier panchayati raj system in Khagaria district, the SIC recommended to the Chief Secretary to issue a directive to all development-related government departments to put all information in public domain.
