Old cases against Bal Thackeray for his inflammatory writings still pending

Information obtained under the RTI has revealed that cases against the Shiv Sena Supremo and editor of Saamna Mr. Bal Thackeray for his alleged inflammatory writings have either been closed or are awaiting government permission. A recently published book, ‘Riots and After in Mumbai: Chronicles of Truth and Reconciliation’, by Meena Menon has chronicled these cases. In Dadar police station - 14 cases, Mahim police station - 3 cases, Shivaji Park police station- 2 cases, Gamdevi police station -1 case, Azad Maidan police station – 2cases, amongst others. The Crime Branch unit 3 reportedly found plenty of evidence under sections 153A, 153 B and 505 (1) (c) of the IPC and the Police Commissioner sought permission from the Secretary (Home) to file a case in court against Mr. Thackeray which is still pending.
