23 Nov, 2011The Chief Information Commissioner unveils the website
The Chief Information Commissioner to the Government of India Shri Satyananda Mishra pressed the button to formally launch the web-site rtifoundationofindia.com in a glittering ceremony organised by the CII in association with the RTI foundation. He, thereby, become the first official visitor to the site. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Mishra spoke in detail about the changing face of administration in the wake of the RTI Act. He pointed out that there has been little formal training of the government servants at the lower levels. He traced the origin of the Civil Service from the Mughal period highlighting the changes which have taken place since then. At the cutting edge, the training has mostly been on job which has affected the quality of services delivered. He added that for enforcing the provisions of the RTI Act, the training imparted to the public servants is very little.
Talking of legitimacy in governance, Shri Mishra stressed on the role of the RTI as a tool for good governance. He said that RTI Act is helping the government and its institutions more than it is helping the public. He stressed on the need for a harmonious relation between the applicant and the public authority for the Act to succeed.
The programme was attended by the officers of the Central and State government along with members of CII. Dr Anuradha Verma, President - RTI Foundation, made a presentation on the RTI Act and discussed the basic provisions of the Act. Mr. Sandeep Naolekar, CII MP State Council Chairman welcomed the guests and Mr. Anshul Mittal gave the vote of thanks.
