Are the High Courts following the law?
17 Jan, 2012Ten high Courts were pulled up by the Central Information Commission and directed to pro-actively disclosure information as per the section 4 (1) (b) of the RTI Act. The High Courts who were at the receiving end were those of the AP, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Allahabad, Madras, Guwahati, Punjab & Haryana and Sikkim. As per section 4 (1) (b), every government department should disclose complete details of the organization, employees, decisions taken by it and budget, among other details pro-actively without waiting for a RTI application. This information should be updated as frequently as possible and disseminated to the public. The High Courts have been given three months’ time for compliance.
