Know who recommended whom for the Padma awards
11 Nov, 2013Following the directions of the Central Information Commission (CIC), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has disclosed the names of persons who had made the recommendations for Padma awards this year. The list of 1,300 recommendations reveals that some people had suggested multiple candidates while others had endorsed the names of their friends and relatives for the prestigious awards. The reply indicates the hectic push and pull for the nomination of the awards. Some of the persons and the names recommended by them include:
Lata Mangeshkar (herself a Bharat Ratna awardee) recommended the names of –
· Usha Mangeshkar (sister),
· Suresh Wadkar (playback singer) and
· Rajmal Parakh (social worker).
Recommendations made by the sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali (Recipient of Padma Vibhushan himself) –
· Amaan and Ayaan (his sons),
· Kaushiki Chakrabarty (Hindustani classical singer),
· Vijay Ghate (tabla player),
· Soorya Krishnamurthy alias Nataraja Krishnamoorthy (art promoter) and
· Niladri Kumar (sitar player).
Former SP leader Amar Singh recommended the name of the Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Prada for the award.
Pandit Jasraj (classical singer) had made nine suggestions.
Sushilkumar Shinde (Home Minister) had suggested two theatre personalities.
Salman Khurshid (External Affairs Minister) recommended two names.
Vijay Darda (Congress MP) had nominated three persons.
Rajiv Shukla made five recommendations.
Motilal Vora made eight recommendations.
