Kerala SIC recommends a review petition against a verdict given by SC
29 Oct, 2013The Kerala State Information Commission (SIC) has decided to recommend the state government of Kerala to file a review petition against a verdict given by the Supreme Court (SC), holding the cooperative societies beyond the purview of the Right to Information Act, 2005. The SC had observed that the cooperative societies were not getting substantial financial support from the government and henceforth the provisions of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 are not applicable to them.
The Cooperative rules specify that right for audit and change of governance in societies are entrusted with the government. SIC was extremely skeptic about the wide spread ramifications of the SC decision and held that the verdict needed to be re-examined.
