Kerala SIC office may be transferred to another agency
4 Feb, 2013The State Information Commission (SIC) of Kerala was allotted the building at Vanchiyoor in Thiruvananthapuram in 2005. Later the commission had built another building on the allotted land for hearing of appeals under the Right to Information (RTI) Act using its own funds.
However, the ownership document that was in the name of the Kerala State Rural Development Board, was not transferred to the commission. Six months ago, the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) had urged the government for the transfer of property ownership to the commission.
Now the Local Self-Government Department has rejected the commission’s claim to the land and buildings and has ordered the transfer of the 25 cents on which the commission office stands to Kerala Urban and Rural Development Finance Corporation Limited (KURDFC).
It is to be mentioned that only a few information commissions have their own buildings. Even the Central Information Commission currently functions from a rented building.
