Kamla Nehru Hospital received excess grants from the centre
The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that the Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital (KNMH), presided over by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, received excess grants-in-aid under the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP).
The reply, provided by the Ministry of Health, states that KNMH, being one of 27 Regional Cancer Centres (RCC), received a total grant of Rs. 9.5 crores since 2002 out of which Rs. 5 crore were granted during 2006-07.
According to the guidelines of NCCP, grants-in-aid to the regional cancer centres should not exceed a one-time amount of Rs. 3 crore. More so, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) noted in its report that the balance sheets of KNMH show that Rs. 521 lakh were kept unutilized so as to earn an interest of Rs. 244 lakhs. The CAG report said that KNMH could not provide clear answers to the queries and the whereabouts of the amount.
