J&K state commission holds JKTDC guilty of violating RTI norms
23 Oct, 2013The state information commission (SIC) of J&K has directed the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) to come out with information pertaining to vehicles attached with it. While disposing an application filed under RTI, the information commissioner GR Sufi observed that the information sought is of ‘high public value’ and therefore needed to be disclosed. The CIC directed the Pubic Information (PIO) of JKTDC, Reyaz Ahmed to publish the information on their website.
Taking a note of the delay by the former PIO in responding to the application, the SIC issued a show cause notice to her to explain why she shouldn’t be penalized for not providing the information within the stipulated time. The SIC expressed displeasure about the order passed by the APIO under Section 7 demanding copying charges, calling it as ‘in ab initio bad’ and ‘legally not sustainable’. For the first appellate authority who had not passed an order, the SIC had a word of advice to discharge his public duties in accordance with the provisions of law.
