Irony - Power Development Department also among power defaulters
19 Mar, 2013The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that the offices under the Power Development Department (PDD) also find a place among the list of defaulters to the department with a total outstanding of around Rs. 98,000.
The reply, provided by the Chief Engineer PDD (EM&RE) Kashmir, shows that office of the Executive Engineer Electric Division Bijbehara hasn’t paid Rs. 75,099 as power tariff to the government whereas office of the Executive Engineer Sub-Transmission division Bijbehara has a due of Rs. 23,512.
The RTI applicant said that the official records show that the biggest power defaulters include the government and its functionaries. He said that major government defaulters were the Public Health Engineering department and the Irrigation and Flood Control department with a combined outstanding of Rs. 184 crore against them followed by Health department and Police department with Rs. 14 crore and Rs. 13 crore of dues respectively.
