14 Jan, 2013Background
The appellant filed an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act with the State Bank of India (SBI) seeking information pertaining to the transfer of an amount from one of the appellant’s account to appellant’s another account without his knowledge. The Public Information Officer (PIO) denied the information stating that the matter was pending in a court.
Proceeding
During the hearing before the Central Information Commission (CIC), the appellant stated that he had been provided information on some points and denied on others. The respondent explained that this was a matter where some money was deposited in a certain branch and transferred to another branch but the depositor, due to change of mind, asked for a reversion of the transaction. The respondent also stated that the matter was enquired into by the bank. The appellant said that he was an affected party and that he was essentially looking for a copy of the outcome of enquiry that had been conducted by the bank.
View of CIC
The Commission directed the respondent to provide to the appellant a copy of the enquiry report.
