Information Commissioner threatened with dire consequences
15 May, 2012In perhaps the first case of its kind in the country, the Information Commissioner of Uttarakhand, Shri Anil Kumar Sharma, has been threatened of ‘Uttar Pradesh-type of consequences' following his order for disclosure of information related to the NRHM purchases. He had recently directed the Director-General of Health Services (DGHS) to provide details purchase of medicines worth Rs 14.70-crore under the NRHM in all the 13 districts of the State during period 2008 - 2010.
After medicines worth Rs. 20 lakh were found in a drain in Roorkee a few months ago, Mr. Ramesh Chand Sharma, managing trustee of a dharamshala in Haridwar, had sought information regarding the purchase of Medicine done under the NRHM. An enquiry has been ordered and the case of purchase of medicines may be referred to CBI.
The police have taken measure by registering a case for threatening Mr. Sharma against an unknown person and strengthening his security.
