ICAI conducts a RTI workshop for the staff and officers
22 May, 2014The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) conducted a workshop on Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 yesterday at Delhi which was attended by over 80 individuals. With the spread of awareness regarding the RTI Act, the professional institutes too are facing numerous RTI applications and Dr Verma talked about the ways and means to ensure proper implementation of the various provisions of the RTI Act. She gave a power point presentation and explained the role of the Public Information Officer in effective implementation of the Act. The steps required to ensure effective reply to an application filed under the RTI Act formed a major part of her lecture.
The workshop involved two sessions which were noticeable for the active involvement of the participants. The ICAI has been charging Rs. 500/- for providing the answer-sheets of the examination conducted by it which has invited criticism. Dr Verma adviced the authorities to restrict the demand for further fee to Rs 2/- per page and not to charge any amount beyond that mandated under the RTI fee rules.
Dr Verma also discussed the need for regular training and updating of the knowledge base of professionals like the chartered accountants.
