Huge vacancies in the engineering institutes of Gujarat shown through RTI
8 Oct, 2012On the basis of information obtained from the state technical education directorate through an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, it has been claimed that more than 70 per cent of teaching posts in the 16 government degree engineering colleges and 25 diploma institutes of Gujarat state are lying vacant.
It has been alleged that 75 per cent posts of principal, 90 per cent of post of professor and 73 per cent of post of lecturer are lying vacant in engineering colleges. In case of the polytechnic institutes, 84 per cent of posts of principal, 63 per cent posts of head of department and 70 per cent posts of lecturer are lying vacant.
While there are eligible youth looking for jobs, the reasons for keeping such huge vacancies in engineering institutes are not understood. They lead to poor quality of the students coming out of the institutes and compromise on the quality of technical education. No vacancies have been filled since 2003 though the teaching staffs continue to retired every year.
