Huge staff crunch in government hospitals of Mumbai

The replies to applications filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act have revealed that state-run hospitals in Mumbai are facing acute staff crunch.
The replies to the applications show that four government-run hospitals viz. Gokuldas Tejpal (GT) hospital, Cama and Albless hospital, Sir JJ Group of Hospitals and St George's hospital have 871 posts of nursing staff, 129 posts for para-medics, 70 medical posts and 87 posts for lecturers vacant.
The data obtained in the replies show that highest percentage of shortage is observed in medical staff posts with 46% vacancy, followed by lecturer posts in medical colleges (38%), nursing staff (33%) and para-medical and administrative staff with 29% vacancy each. Overall, total number of posts vacant in administrative section is 94 and in labour section, it is 570.
With respect to hospitals, maximum vacancies were in witnessed in Cama hospital where 36% of sanctioned posts are lying vacant. Cama hospital is followed by GT hospital, St. George hospital and JJ hospital with 34%, 29% and 27% vacancies respectively.
