HC directs government to fill vacant posts of Information Commissioners
27 Jan, 2013A division bench of the Jabalpur bench of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh has directed the state government to fill the vacant posts of information commissioners in the State Information Commission (SIC). The bench was hearing the petition filed by the Right to Information (RTI) activist Ajay Dubey.
The division bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court was presided by Chief Justice S A Bobade and Justice K K Trivedi which directed the government to initiate the process of filling the posts within three weeks. It also asked the government to make the selection process transparent and to ensure equal opportunity to all qualified persons in the process.
The court has also directed the government to issue advertisements for inviting applications for the post. Over 7,000 RTI appeals are pending with the state information commission and ten posts of information commissioners are currently lying vacant.
