Haryana to initiate hearing of RTI appeals via video conferencing
4 Feb, 2013In a bid to ease the process of hearing appeals by the residents of Haryana under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, Haryana Information Commission is to start hearing appeals through video conferencing facility at the district headquarters.
Funds worth Rs. 9.68 lakh were released by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the centrally-sponsored scheme on “Improving Transparency and Accountability in Government through Effective Implementation of RTI Act, 2005” to facilitate the setting up of information technology paraphernalia for video conferencing at state information commission’s office at Chandigarh.
The deputy commissioners’ offices in all the 21 districts of Haryana have video conferencing facilities which can be used for hearing RTI appeals. Earlier the appellants and PIO’s had to travel from their respective districts to the main office of the State Information Commission, the second appellant authority, at Chandigarh at the time of hearing of appeals.
