Government resolution to tackle illegal constructions not followed
4 May, 2013The state government of Maharashtra had issued a government resolution in September, 2011 to tackle the issue of illegal constructions going on in the state. The resolution asked for formation of a high level state committee comprising of the chief secretary, the home secretary, the head of urban development department and various civic chiefs so as to control the menace of illegal buildings across the state. The high level committee was to meet regularly every quarter to discuss and act upon the said issue.
However, the reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that the committee has met only once in past two years since its formation. The reply says that the only time the committee had met was on September 20, 2011.
The Raigad president of Maharashtra chamber of housing industry (MCHI-CREDAI) has said that the illegal structures are mushrooming not only in Mumbra and Kalyan-Dombivali areas but they are also expanding in other regions of Maharashtra and has expressed his hope that the apathetic attitude of the state could be reversed.
