UP government has no trace of Nimesh commission report
22 Apr, 2013In 2007, a commission was constituted by the state government of Uttar Pradesh under the chairmanship of Justice RD Nimesh to look into the matter of alleged illegal arrest of two muslim youths in connection with serial blasts at district courts in Lucknow, Faizabad and Gorakhpur.
The 1000 page report, which bears the testimony of 116 witnesses and documentary evidences, was submitted by the secretary of the commission to the current chief minister of the state on 31st of August 2012. Recently, applications were filed with the office of the chief secretary and the state home department under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get a copy of the Nimesh Commission report.
As the applicant didn’t get a reply, she approached the first appellate officer of the home department. Later, a reply from the home department to the appellant stated that the department had not received the Nimesh Commission report. The appellant has now raised questions about the intentions of the government regarding the findings of the report.
Are the reports of the commissions entiled for a decent burial?
