Ganesh Chandra Panda (52), a resident of Randha village, which is on the outskirts of Berhampur in Odisha, was allegedly murdered in cold blood. As per reports, he had gone out for his morning walk at round 5.30 AM while after about an hour, his blood soaked body was found at NH-16 near the village.
His brother, Rabindra Panda, informed that Ganesh owned a shop at the village. He had got interested in Right to Information (RTI) and had started filing applications seeking information about different developmental works taken up in his panchayat area. He suspected misappropriation of public money in the development projects and some contractors of these developmental projects were irked by his activist manner. His brother has alleged that Ganesh has been killed by those who had a fear of being exposed by him.
The Golanthara police station area of Ganjam district in Odisha are investigating the matter and have recovered blood stained weapons from a nearby pond. As per reconstruction of facts, Ganesh was attacked by a group people while he had gone for his walk, with weapons such as an axe, sword and knife. Police is also trying to examine other angles to rule out any past personal rivalry, which might have led to this murder.
