FAQ

If a citizen finds that a practice of a public authority does not conform to the provisions or spirit of the RTI Act, what can he do?

If the practice of a public authority in relation to the exercise of its functions under this Act does not conform to the provisions or spirit of the RTI Act, a citizen should bring it to the notice of the Transparency Officer of the public authority or the Information Commission. The Information Commission may give a recommendation to the public authority specifying the steps which ought in its opinion to be taken for promoting such conformity. These recommendations put pressure on the Public Authorities to adopt better practises thereby contributing to the transparency and accountability.
