Is the employment clause causing delay in Sabari project?
8 Mar, 2013An application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking the details of the Angamaly-Sabarimala rail project (Sabari project) in Kerala.
The reply to the application reveals that the governments order about providing permanent employment to the persons who are providing their land for the project has been the major hurdle in the progress of the project as the railways has not been able to abide by the said regulations. This has led to unwillingness on the part of the people to hand over their land for the project. The railways could not provide reply to the queries like whether anyone in the Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad divisions has been recruited by the railways under the order and the number of applications received by the railways for employment. The reply stated that no such records could be found.
The applicant has alleged that lethargy and inability of the railways has led to non materialization of the project and said that he will move the court regarding this.
