Does the beach house violating CRZ norms belong to Lokayukta ADGP’s wife?
19 Aug, 2013As per the reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, a complaint was lodged with the Regional Director, Forest, Environment and Ecology department stating that a house was constructed within 500 metres of the coast at Maravanthe in Udupi violating the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms.
The reply also showed that when the directions issued by the Regional Director to the Panchayat Secretary did not bring any result, he had to issue a show cause notice to the Panchayat Secretary. The documents provided in the reply revealed that the Panchayat Secretary stated in the report that the construction work of the bungalow had been stopped which was contrary to the fact.
The Regional Director had to issue a notice to the wife of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of the Lokayukta, in whose name the property was registered, asking her to submit all the relevant documents, which was not done, and in spite of the warning of legal action, the construction work was not stopped and the building was completed. Though the ADGP has refuted the allegations stating that norms have not been violated, the documents procured through RTI indicate that the status of the building continues to be in violation of the coastal regulation zone norms.
