Disabled person attacked in Khandwa for filing RTI application
14 Dec, 2012In the list of persons who have faced the wrath of high and mighty, there has been an addition of a name. The sarpanch of a village in Khandwa had told another villager, a disabled tailor Gendalal, that he would not be given benefits of any government schemes as he had complained to the district collector. Gendalal, then filed an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking the names of beneficiaries of the Indira Awas Yojana which provides housing to the poor and Antyodaya scheme which provides food grains to the poor.
The query enraged sarpanch Gulab Singh Sirsodia and his family. The sarpanch’s son Manoj then beat Gendalal in full public view and after that he attacked the victim’s parents and sister with a sickle. The injured, admitted at a hospital in Khandwa, were out of danger and the police have started investigating the case.
