Data stored on computers of the standing committee of BMC to come to light
30 Oct, 2013Civic officials at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are in a fix over a Right to Information (RTI) query seeking details of data stored on computers of the standing committee chairman's office. The RTI application has sought information relating to proposals and decisions taken by the standing committee and the minutes of all the meetings stored in the computers.
The standing committee at BMC holds significant information regarding the resources of Asia's richest corporation. Besides the minutes of the standing committee meetings, the corporation computers could also hold data related to the official meetings held in the chairman's chamber.
This RTI application can have wide implications and may reveal the various controversies surrounding the standing committee such as cost escalation of various projects, unusually low quotations for tenders and specific tender conditions to benefit certain contractors.
