Complaints to Karnataka Lokayukta go missing- reveals RTI
30 Oct, 2013Over 3,000 complaints regarding corruption and mal - administration in various government departments were received by the Lokayukta in past three years. It was found that around 650 petitions submitted to the Lokayukta in the last two years remain unaddressed at the DIG level. The Lokayukta officials were unable to trace the files dealing with many of these complaints while addressing the queries of people who had taken the RTI route to know the status of their petitions.
The office of the ADGP at the Lokayukta receives the petition and forwards it to the DIG who in turn marks it to the SP for a preliminary inquiry. The complaints are found to be missing at the SP level.
The Lokayukta office has claimed that they were in the process of computerising the petitions and inquiry process and once the process is complete they will have a clear picture of the status of every petition received at the Lokayukta office. Earlier, the petitions were monitored manually.
An internal inquiry has been ordered into the missing petitions and frantic efforts are being made to trace the files, failing which the officials concerned will have to face the consequences.
