Weighing machine and other conditions at the cremation ground

The appellant sought number of information about the cremation ground like details of the materials purchased for the cremation at the cremation ground including the details of the contractors, selling and purchasing price of the wood used for the cremation, maintenance of cremation ground, availability of suggestions booklets at the cremation grounds and details of the cremated persons from 01/04 /2011 to 30/04/2011. He wanted to know if any donation is being received and whether the inspection of all the weighing machines is done by the concerned department every year. The appellant was not satisfied with the information provided by the PIO.

During the hearing, the fact emerged that the weighing machine has not been verified by the Weights and Measures Department, GNCTD for a long time. It was informed to the Commission that the issue has now been taken up with the Weights and Measures Department and a copy of the correspondence was given to the appellant. Noting that the PIO has taken 41 days to transfer application to the deemed PIO, the Commission directed the MHO to inquire into the reasons for the same and send a copy of this report.
Comments
All public authorities must take adequate steps to ensure that such huge delays do not take place before the RTI application reaching the correct PIOs. It must be ensured that the RTI applications reach to the correct PIOs within 05 of receipt.
